Houston’s restaurant scene just got a cozy and thoughtful new addition with the opening of Agnes and Sherman, a modern diner serving Asian American comfort food in the heart of the Heights.
Located at 250 W 19th Street, this new spot is the creation of co-owners Lisa Lee and Chef Nick Wong. The name pays tribute to Nick’s parents, and the menu reflects his upbringing as a third-culture kid with deep roots in both Chinese and American traditions.
Expect bold, nostalgic flavors that feel both familiar and new. Highlights from the menu include savory scallion waffles with sambal honey butter, crawfish egg foo young, Taiwanese disco fries, and a Chinese BBQ club sandwich.

Designed for sharing but perfect for solo diners too, the space is all about warmth and welcome. That’s not just the food talking. The leadership team includes several Houston hospitality vets, like GM Pam Cantú from Goodnight Hospitality, Sous Chef Karla Moreno from Rosie Cannonball, and Bar Lead David Perez of Lei Low. Their combined vision brings together a fun wine program, cocktails that nod to childhood memories, and a diner experience rooted in community.
Whether you’re just stopping in for dinner or making it your go-to neighborhood spot, Agnes and Sherman is worth a visit. It’s personal, it’s playful, and it’s exactly the kind of energy we love to see in the Heights.
