Kin Dee Thai Cuisine review: A scratch-made Thai restaurant in Houston Heights
I can’t believe it took me this long to try Thai food.
After hearing friends rave about it for years, we finally decided to visit Kin Dee Thai Cuisine in Houston Heights. Since it was my first experience with Thai food, we ordered several dishes to share so I could try a little bit of everything. By the end of the meal, I understood why so many people love this cuisine.
What we ordered
We started with the Shrimp in a Blanket, whole shrimp wrapped in a crispy wonton and served with sweet chili sauce. It was the perfect appetizer to kick off the meal and disappeared quickly.
For our entrées, I ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp, while Kyle chose the Panang curry with shrimp. Our friends ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, which was wrapped inside a Thai omelette, along with the pineapple fried rice with tofu. We also couldn’t leave without trying the mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream for dessert.
One of my favorite parts of the meal was being able to sample several dishes. Each one had its own flavors and textures, so it never felt repetitive.
What stood out
The first thing I noticed was how fresh everything tasted. Nothing felt overly heavy, and every dish arrived beautifully presented.
Kin Dee means “eat well” in Thai, and that philosophy really comes through in the food. Everything is made from scratch using traditional recipes, including their house-made sauces. There are no frozen bases or shortcuts, and you can taste the difference.
The restaurant also has a craft cocktail menu inspired by flavors from Thailand, making it a great spot for a date night or dinner with friends.
Beyond the food, the service made the experience even better. The staff was welcoming, happy to answer questions, and never made me feel out of place for trying Thai food for the first time.
Is Kin Dee worth visiting?
Absolutely.
Whether you’re already a fan of Thai food or you’re trying it for the first time like I was, Kin Dee is a great place to start. The menu has plenty of variety, the ingredients taste incredibly fresh, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.
I’ll definitely be back because there are still plenty of dishes I want to try.
